Medigeshi Ascent Summer: The Spirit is Only High (2024) | Chapter 205 (Jun 29, 2024)

Madhu navigating the steep rock face at Medigeshi
  • Place: Medigeshi Fort Trek
  • Distance: 150kms x 2 = 300kms
  • Directions: Bangalore > Dobbaspete > Madhugiri > Medigeshi
  • Krew: Madhu (Simha), Karthik (Sippy)
  • Bikes: Xpulse 200
  • Previous Visit: Kabbaladurga trek
  • Budget: Rs 615/head

IN LESS THAN 50 WORDS:

When a trip starts with good tea and breakfast, you know it will be good! Everything fell into the right slots and all we had to do was keep moving. Medigeshi is a small town situated on the Karnataka-Andhra border, offering a perfect blend of history and nature.

INTRO & PLAN:

With 2024 rolling out well, I decided Medigeshi would be next. Having visited Ratnagiri last month, Medigeshi offered a slightly tougher challenge. The choice was made for a classic, high-energy run.

TIME: 15:00 (27/6/2024)

Sippy in the initial thicket stretch. The initial stretch is beautiful.

ASSEMBLE & LEAVE:

Up by 3:30am, coffee at 4:00. Madhu rode 25km through the city to reach my place by 5:45. We left the town with low-hanging clouds setting a magical mood.

TIME: 06:00

RIDE 1: (Bangalore – Dobbaspete – Madhugiri – Medigeshi)

A 135km ride—one of the best this year. The NH-4 stretch allowed us to pick up pace. At Dobbaspete, a hot tea shot fresh energy into us. The air was cool and gloomy, with hillocks shrouded in mist. We pulled over 12km from Dobbaspete for a double-round breakfast.

TIME: 07:15

Idly and vada, the best breakfast on a trek

From Madhugiri, the remaining 30km to Medigeshi was butter-smooth. The cool ambiance made the journey absorbing.

TIME: 09:00

MEDIGESHI FORT TREK:

About 45 minutes to the summit. It’s an ancient kingdom in ruins, where losing your way is part of the fun.

i) Initial Forest:

A walk through lush greenery. The chirping birds and ancient ruins gave us a feeling of walking into the past.

The grass path is a wonderful start to the medigeshi trek

ii) Rock face:

Out of the forest, we hit the pure rock face. Ruined pillars and torn-down fort walls told stories of past invasions as we ascended slowly.

The steep rock face is the second phase of the medigeshi fort trek

iii) Final gates:

We chose the "free style" climb over the steps for the final steep rock face. It was an intense moment where only the next step mattered. After the climb, we reached the iconic Indo-Islamic building at the top.

TIME: 09:45

TOP:

We spent an hour at the summit. The "spooky tree" was surprisingly green this time. As the wind blew and insects chirped, the silence felt both beautiful and scary. We decided to head back as clouds moved in from afar.

TIME: 10:45

The gateways that are present during the initial part of the trek

DESCENT:

A straightforward 25-minute descent. Despite losing the way occasionally, we found landmarks that guided us back down to civilization.

TIME: 11:30

The steep rock faces at medigeshi are fun to ascend.

RIDE 2: (Medigeshi – Madhugiri – Dobbaspete - Bangalore)

The ride back on X-pulse was pure fun. After a custom "sting" at Madhugiri, we reached Whity Dhaba for lunch. Two hours of relaxing later, we were back home.

TIME: 16:00

Lunch at whity dhaba. A good finish to a wonderful trek.

CONCLUSION:

"Excellent tea, yummy breakfast, captivating rides, and a relishing trek—a day perfectly spent!"

Until next time Cia \m/
